ROYAL ALFRED MARINA

The first of the Marina Environmental Awareness and Education Program events took place on 5 September 2023.  The Coastal and Ocean Sciences Team from SAIAB, in collaboration with The Royal Alfred Marina, hosted 20 pupils from Kuyasa Combined School at the Marina Clubhouse.

PhD students from Rhodes University presented their research topics with exhibitions and a fun quiz which was met with enthusiasm by the scholars.  The scholars commented on learning about things that they didn’t know about the Kowie River and beach that they have enjoyed all their lives and a number of scholars said that the presentation would influence their subject choice for Grade 10 as an interest in all things marine was sparked by the presentations.

SMALL BOAT HARBOUR

The Harbour Master’s office has not been able to issue boat registration papers for some time but the Small Boat Harbour Company and Ndlambe are working to reach a positive outcome whereby this service will once again be made available at the Harbour Master’s office.

On-going maintenance at the Small Boat Harbour ensured that the harbour jetty’s did not sustain any damage from the storm surge and high seas during the month.
