Municipal Matters, Sewage, Water

CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESSED TO Ndlambe LM ON 8 DECEMBER 2022 FROM PARRA.

Attention:       Municipal Manager, Director of Infrastructure and Ndlambe LM Speaker

Dear Council and Municipal Manager,

At a recent meeting held on the third of November 2022 *(click HERE to read the full report) with the Municipal Manager, the Deputy Directors of Infrastructure, Deputy Director of Community Protection Services and PARRA certain commitments were made and timelines agreed to.

The main commitment was made to attend to all the water sewage leaks and have teams on standby to immediately intervene if any spillages occur.

This has not happened. PARRA daily get reports of sewage and water spills with the information being passed on to the relevant departments. Results of E.coli test on the Kowie River were requested but none have been received. A number of other commitments have also not been adhered to.

Port Alfred is in the beginning of their most important tourism season and visitors will not return to Port Alfred if these spillages continue. Many residents and ratepayers have made large investments in homes and businesses and they are extremely worried about their investments if Ndlambe LM fails to address these infrastructure issues.

Urgent intervention is required by the Dept. of Infrastructure. They cannot just use load shedding as an excuse as load shedding is a reality and we have to plan to maintain our infrastructure during these periods or have back up systems.

Regards

Dawie van Wyk
PARRA Chair
