A meeting was held on 30th October 2024 with officials from Ndlambe Municipality‘s Finance department and we were able to get concessions/consensus on some issues.
The municipality has indicated that they intend to hold a meeting
with the public on 22 November 2024 (this is to be confirmed and more details to follow).
- It was agreed that no proper public participation process was followed. In future, this will be rectified and proper process to be followed. In terms of government legislation, there is a 4 step process that should be followed.
- Clear definition of what is SSEG is needed. Does SSEG include
generators, stand alone inverters and batteries(no panels), solar geysers, portable power stations, etc? - Ndlambe has indicated that ultimately all households must have a Smart meter.
- Smart meters cost are for installation only and does not include the meter. This is why the meter stays the property of the municipality.
- No charges for registered SSEG clients will happen until the meters are all installed and fully operational
- The different rates for SSEG/Non-SSEG/Empty plots and Off grid users were explained. All infrastructure is available to that property, whether you choose to use it or not, it still must be maintained for future use.
- Some amendments to tariffs have been agreed and these can be found in the attachment: Ndlambe Reply on Tariff Questions and Complaints
- PARRA has taken umbrage at the threats from municipality, such as charges of manslaughter, cutting off of electricity. PARRA strongly condemned these scare tactics. They are counterproductive and incorrect, in their legal context.
